Piero Fornasetti was a Milanese painter, sculptor, interior decorator and printer of books. His creative output, handed down and reinterpreted today by his son Barnaba, is composed of a visual vocabulary that is instantly recognisable. Fornasetti conveys a sense of the poetic and magical through its depiction of a dream world filled with whimsical humour. The ‘Fornasetti Profumi per la Casa’ collection brings this unique world to life through a selection of hand crafted and scented decorative objects.
Fornasetti introduces the ‘Agata’ collection with a newly created mesmerising and hypnotic design that combines with its hypnotic fifth scent ‘Malachite’. ‘Agata’ brings together a visually rich and engaging design and an ‘eternal’ scent. ‘Malachite’is redolent of a ‘Byzantine’ past filled with dark basilicas, lofty coffered ceilings, inlayed surfaces shimmering in the candle light, and towering pillars suffused with smoke and incense. ‘Agata’ forms the core decorative element of the new Fornasetti Profumi collection. The design originally depicted by Piero Fornasetti in the 1950’s for the lamp base ‘Agata’ has been adapted by Barnaba Fornasetti with a surrealist touch, and features multi-coloured graphic ripples of the semi-precious stone interspersed with hypnotic eye motifs. ‘Agata’ has been used on everything from signature furniture pieces, wallpapers and limited edition creations.
‘Malachite’ - The Scent
The scent has grown from inspiration taken from the vibrant crystallized mineral, a semi-precious stone crafted for centuries. Rich green notes provide the starting point of the scent – pine, clary sage and galbanum, blended with the smoky warmth and depth of cedar wood, patchouli, sandalwood and amber. Emanating from a rich black wax ‘Malachite’ captures the heady essence of ‘evening’, a scent for dark cloistered rooms, all enveloping, hypnotic, tantalising and mysterious. A nod to the mysteries of time immemorial.
