Roads launches Africa: the most inspirational fragrances

The new AFRICA COLLECTION by ROADS is an exciting collaboration of culture: where inspirational African ingredients are combined with the evocative influences of literature, art and dance to create four fragrances that will provoke feelings of sensual sophistication, radiance and warmth. Let’s discover the fragrances:

I AM DANCE – is based on the freedom of African Dance. Top notes of zesty lemon, mandarin and hazy marine accord are mixed with fresh apple, pineapple and aromatic lavandin.  Finally warm base notes of Amber, cedar wood and the deepness of patchouli are blended beautifully to create a colorful and complex fragrance.

BIG SKY sky is a moveable muse that artists, film-makes and photographers have all tried to capture.  With natural top notes of citrus, lemon and orange flower, flirting with exotic geranium, patchouli, papyrus and oud, whilst the sensual base notes of Amber, sandalwood, cashmeran, myrrh and Vanilla conclude the intoxicating journey.

PAST|PRESENCE – modern Nigerian literature has received much international acclaim and respect in recent years. It’s a thought-provoking fragrance, that reflects the balance between past and present of a country. Elegant top notes of Bergamot and smoked black tea blend effortlessly with classic Jasmine whilst the softness and warmth of Tonka bean adds the perfect backdrop.

AFROPOLIS – celebrates the dynamic cultural clash and rise of Africa’s multi-cultural, energetic and diverse cities. Topped by the lightness of Gin, Juniper Berries, Fresh citrus and spearmint, reinforced by Blonde woods, Iris, Oak moss and marine and coloured by Ebony wood, vetiver, amber and radiant cashmere musks to create a melodious finale.

In addition to the limited edition fragrances, ROADS have commissioned four visually and geographically diverse African artists, such as Lynnie Zulu, Dylan Culhane, Ywa Tony and Elise Hannebique, to create packaging artwork to accompany each fragrance and make it look unique in its own way:

BIG SKY – DYLAN CULHANE, is a Cape Town based photographic artist working with photography collage his work embraces the intense use of colour and geometric shapes.

PAST|PRESENCE – YAW TONY, is a talented Ghanaian/Canadian architect, artist and graphic designer based in Toronto. He is known for experimenting with patterns, fabrics and textiles.  His designs are a creative collaboration of western culture and ancient African traditions.

Businesswoman and philantropist Danielle Ryan was born into a family of entrepreneurs, as the granddaughter of Tony Ryan, founder of international aviation companies such as Ryanair. Danielle pursued the dramatic arts early on, training as an actress at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London. After her father passed away in 2007, Danielle headed large scale charitable donations, worked with the United Nations and UNICEF, and created The Lir - National Academy of Dramatic Art in Dublin. In 2013, Danielle launched the start-up luxury group Roads. ROADS GROUP is a school of thought, a creative curation of sensory experiences meant to enhance and deepen cultural and intellectual understanding through the concept of storytelling. Ryan’s quest was to invent a brand that was not limited by its own definition, but instead could follow customers’ desires, bringing together art, ideas, people, places, and fragrances.
